How do I make an Extras claim?
If your provider has a HICAPS machine, you can simply swipe your see-u by HBF (or CUA Health) card and have your claim processed immediately. All you will need to pay is the difference.
If your provider doesn’t offer HICAPS, pay your bill and submit your invoice and we will refund your claim direct to your bank account. This can be done via the see-u Health App, via Online Member Services or by mail. If you submit your extras claim online or via the app, just snap a photo of your invoice.
How do I make a Hospital claim?
If your doctor treats you under the Access Gap Cover Scheme, in most cases you’ll never even see a doctor’s bill. If you aren’t being treated under the Scheme, any medical account you receive should be submitted to Medicare along with a two-way claim form. This will then be sent to see-u for processing. All you will need to pay is your co-payment or excess.
For your hospital accommodation, your hospital will deal directly with us. We’ll take care of all the details – so you only need to focus on getting better.
A copy of the Medicare Two-way Claim form can be found here.
Things to know about making a claim
- You must have served relevant waiting periods
- Your premiums payments must be up to date
- You can’t claim until after the service has been provided and paid for (you cannot claim for a procedure prior to it being provided)
- Claims must be lodged within two years from the date the service was provided
When visiting an Extras provider do I need to bring anything with me?
It’s a good idea to bring your see-u (or CUA Health) member card with you to your appointment. If your practitioner uses HICAPS, you can make your extras claim on the spot and only pay the difference.
What happens if I don’t have my Membership Card or the the Extras provider doesn't offer HICAPS?
You can still claim your Extras benefit, just pay for your treatment and be sure to get an invoice. You can then lodge your claim using the see-u Health App, Online Member Services, or by mail.
What is a ‘gap’?
A gap is the amount of the medical bill that remains to be paid by the patient after Medicare and/or private health funds have paid their share.
All of see-u Hospital Cover options include ‘gap cover’, which means that if your doctor and hospital agree to treat you on the ‘Access Gap Cover Scheme’ you will have little to no gap to pay.
It’s always a good idea to ask your doctor or medical provider for an estimate of any out of pocket expenses you may incur, particularly if you’re having surgery.
